Perth 2011 ISAF Sailing World Championships
Perth, Western Australia

Tessa Parkinson (AUS) won Women's 470 gold with Elise Rechichi at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. Three years on, after taking a break from sailing, Parkinson is sailing with Belinda Stowell and the pair are bidding to compete at the London 2012 Olympic Games.
The pair are natives of Perth, Western Australia, the venue of the Perth 2011 ISAF Sailing World Championships.

On the conditions the 941 sailors registered so far to sail in Perth will face Parkinson said, "Perth is renowned as one of the windiest cities in the world and in December the sea breeze is 20-25 knots guaranteed every afternoon.

"I know for test event last year we had unexpected light winds but the summer hadn't really kicked in but my bet is there is strong easterlies in the morning and the wind goes to nothing for an hour and then the strong breezes come in from about 12:30 and keep increasing throughout the afternoon.

"It'll be great conditions for sailing and they'll put on a great show for watching."

Watch a full interview with Parkinson as she talks about her Olympic campaign with Stowell, the conditions at Weymouth and Portland, the venue of the London 2012 Olympic Sailing Competition, and the Perth 2011 ISAF Sailing World Championships.

The Perth 2011 ISAF Sailing World Championships, taking place from 3 to 18 December 2011, will bring together past and future Champions as titles are decided in the ten Olympic sailing events.

The regatta is one of the great events in the world sailing calendar. It is a key qualifying event for sailors aspiring to represent their country at the 2012 London Olympic Games, as 75% of the national Olympic places will be decided in Perth.

MNAs can still earn more places based on the 2011 ISAF World Rankings and also through the ISAF Qualification Commission.

Applications based on 2011 ISAF World Rankings and the ISAF Qualification Commission should be made directly to ISAF before 30 June 2011. For more details contact ISAF here.
